PORT JOURNEY

Vessel arrival & pilotage

The call begins before the vessel reaches the port. Arrival information creates the first shared picture of the ship, its purpose and its expected timing.

What happens at this stage

The appointed agent coordinates the information requested by the relevant parties, while the master and authorised marine personnel retain responsibility for vessel movement. Pilotage and tug arrangements must be confirmed through the appropriate operational channels. A website cannot allocate a pilot or establish safe arrival conditions.

02

How the coordination works

A practical arrival brief identifies the vessel, nominated facility, principal, cargo context and services required. Keep estimates current and explain which activities are sensitive to a change in arrival. A provisions supplier and a crew-transfer provider may both need the same update, even though their tasks are different.

03

What a useful handover looks like

Every stage should leave the next team with an understandable position: the event that has occurred, the conditions still outstanding and the contact responsible for the next decision. This makes an update actionable. It also avoids confusing an estimate with a confirmed operational milestone.

For a Nigerian port enquiry, identify the intended facility rather than relying on the city name alone. Rivers Port and Onne are distinct port complexes in Rivers State. Share the vessel or cargo context with operations so the requested support can be discussed against the actual assignment.
